ASIAN AMERICAN ACTION FUND OF GREATER CHICAGO’S ANNUAL EVENT,
COALITION FOR A BETTER CHINESE COMMUNITY TO RECEIVE “MAKING HISTORY AWARD”
Chicago – Mayor Rahm Emanuel to address supporters of the Asian American Action Fund of Greater Chicago (AAAFGC) at its annual fund raiser on October 18 at the Allegro Hotel at 5:30 p.m. Endorsed candidates for the 8th Congressional District, Tammy Duckworth and Raja Krishnamoorthi, are also set to address the crowd. Proceeds of the event will benefit the five-year old Democratic political action fund dedicated to advancing Asian Pacific American (APA) political empowerment.
The AAAFGC will present its 3rd Annual “Making History” Award in honor of the late Judge Sandra Otaka. Judge Otaka, who passed in 2009, was a tireless advocate for APA issues and Cook County’s first Asian American elected judge. This year, AAAFGC will honor the Coalition for a Better Chinese American Community (CBCAC) for the group’s pioneering redistricting efforts. “Judge Otaka’s imprint continues to live on; and the CBCAC reflects the legacy she left in Chicago and Illinois,” said Lawrence Benito, AAAFGC Board President.
AAAFGC also announced its endorsement of Tammy Duckworth and Raja Krishnamoorthi, both running in the Democratic primary in the 8th Congressional District. “We are excited to see two strong APA candidates seeking to represent Illinois in Congress. They both embody the tenets of the Action Fund,” said Anita Banerji, Vice President of AAAFGC.
“We are excited about the momentum we’re building as a PAC, and the funds we raise will help build capacity in and support other APA candidates,” said Eric Mah, AAAFGC Board Secretary.
